GPD Midnight Shift Has Prevented Car Thefts, but Residents are Urged to Lock their Cars

Greenwich Police report that in the past weeks, the Midnight Shift has prevented several motor vehicle thefts.

On Facebook they posted that this past week, one juvenile suspect from New York City was arrested for attempting to steal a vehicle from the North Mianus area.

“On any given night, the officers are detecting and disrupting motor vehicle thieves in Greenwich,” police wrote. “It’s a common occurrence for officers to locate a car stolen from another town in Greenwich seeking to steal a resident’s vehicle.”

Current state law prevent the police from pursuing motor vehicle theft suspects.

Nevertheless officers officers do their best, but most of the time they say the suspects leave the area via I-95.

Despit officers’ proactive patrols, suspects are still able to steal cars easily due to vehicles being left unlocked with the keys inside.

“GPD will continue its diligence in trying to prevent this crime, but we need your help,” police said.

Please remove the keys or key fobs from your vehicles.

Lock the doors and do not leave any valuables inside your vehicle.
