Greenwich Police arrested five men late Friday morning after plain clothes officers noticed suspicious activity consistent with bank fraud at 231 Greenwich Avenue. The address is associated with Chase Bank.
Bilah L Edmondson, 31, of Bronx, NY; and his co-conspirators were all detained and on-scene investigation revealed that the suspects attempted bank transactions for $2,500 and $4,500 at multiple banks, providing evasive answers to investigating officers and possessed three counterfeit checks.
Additionally, one of the counterfeit checks was for $86,705.53 and in conjunction with other items located in the vehicle, police deducted that this check would have been withdrawn upon just as the other had been. Mr. Edmondson attempted one of the transactions.
Edmondson was charged with:
Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 1, Criminal Attempt Larceny 3, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3, Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 3 (3 counts). He has a date in Stamford Superior Court on September 13, 2024.
Also arrested was Emmanuel Modey, 29, of Bronx, NY, who police say impersonated another individual in an attempt to be processed under an alias.
Mr. Modey was charged with:
Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 1, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3, Criminal Impersonation, Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 3 (three counts), Forgery 3 (3 counts), Interfering with Officer/Resisting.
He was unable to post his $50,000 bond. He shares the date in Stamford Superior Court on Sept 13, 2024.
Further police said Mr. Modey was wanted for a charge of Violation of Probation, having been found guilty of charges in Torrington, CT including Larceny 4, Failure to Appear 2 (2 counts) and been sentenced to probation in March 2022 after being found guilty. Bond was set at $25,000.
Mr. Modey also had a warrant for Violating Probation stemming from arrests in Westport. He had been found guilty in Dec 2023 of Larceny 3 and Identity Theft and sentenced to Probation. Bond was set at $75,000.
Modey was also charged with Failure to Appear 2 stemming from charges in Fairfield of Larceny 6 and Failure to Appear 2. He was given a date in Court in Bridgeport on Sept 12, 2024 and court set bond of $25,000.
He also had a warrant for arrest for Violation of Probation stemming back to an arrest in the Town of Wilton for Larceny 3 and Violation of Probation. Bond was set at $75,000.
A third suspect, Taevon Teddy Strickland, 26, of Bronx, NY was charged with:
Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 1
Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3
Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 3 (3 counts)
His bond was set at $50,000, which he was unable to post. He is due in court in Stamford on Sept 13, 2024.
Later, while Mr. Strickland was in custody at the police station he was arrested for Criminal Mischief 1st degree.
Around 3:00pm, police responded to his cell after he requested medical assistance.
Police said that while attempting to determine signs and symptoms, Mr. Strickland was uncooperative with officers and yelled profanities. As his non-compliant behavior escalated, Mr. Strickland used the blanket to break the fire sprinkler system in the cell block. As a result the cell block and processing area flooded, requiring the fire department and maintenance to respond. Strickland was then provided medical attention, and was later processed. His bond was set at $100,000.
A fourth suspect, Eric Matthew Dejesus, 27, of Bronx, NY was charged with:

Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3
Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 3 (3 counts)
Forgery 3 (3 counts)
He was unable to post his $50,000 bond and is also due in Stamford Superior Court on Sept 13, 2024.
A fifth suspect, Silas Kyei Twumasi, 29, of Bronx, NY was charged with:

Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3
Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 3 (3 counts)
Forgery 3 (3 counts)
He was unable to post his $50,000 bond and is also due in Stamford Superior Court on Sept 13, 2024.
