Duo Charged after GPD Spot Suspicious Activity at Local Bank

Two Rockland County men were arrested by Greenwich Police this week after plainclothes officers observed suspicious activity at a bank in central Greenwich.

Co-conspirators, Tracy D Matthers, 27 of Congers, NY and Andrew A McMurdo, 55 of Haverstraw, NY were both arrested after investigation revealed that McMurdo criminally impersonated the victim using a counterfeit California Driver’s License and MasterCard featuring the victim’s Personal Identifiable Information in an attempt to cash a $4,600 check.

A search of Matthers’ vehicle revealed multiple blank checks identical to the check McMurdo was attempting to cash.

Matthers was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3, Conspiracy to Commit Identity Theft 2, Conspiracy to Commit Criminal Impersonation, Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 2 and Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 3 (two counts).

His bond was set at $50,000 which he was able to post. He is due in Stamford Superior Court on Aug 18, 2023.

McMurdo was charged with Criminal Attempt Larceny 3, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3, Identity Theft 2, Conspiracy to Commit Identity Theft 2, Criminal Impersonation, Conspiracy to Commit Criminal Impersonation, Forgery 2, Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 2, Forgery 3 (two counts) and Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 3 (two counts).

He unable to post his $10,000 bond and shares a date in Stamford Superior Court on Aug 18, 2023.
