DUI for Speeding Driver Who Crashed into Truck and Stone Wall on Delavan in Byram

Last Friday night there was a crash on Delavan Ave in Byram that awoke residents.

Lt Patrick Smyth said a DUI arrest was made after the collision took place near Veterans Way.

The driver was charged with DUI, Traveling Fast, Failure to Maintain Proper Lane and Operating with Suspended Registration.

On the neighborhood Facebook group, a witness said a white car had been going so fast that it crashed into a parked pickup truck and propelled across a driveway into a stone wall, also taking out a parking sign in the process.

Residents have been vocal about their frustration over the frequency of crashes on Delavan Ave and its side streets.

“Drivers like this use our roads like speedways,” one person said on Facebook. “If pedestrians had been on the sidewalk or the nearest house had been closer to the road and without a stone structure protecting it, the results here could have been catastrophic.”

“Dangerous speeding continues to be a major issue on Delavan and in Byram generally. We need serious solutions for a serious problem.”
