DUI For Driver Who Tried Backing onto Arch Street

On May 2, around 6:30pm, Greenwich Police responded to a report of a crash in the area of I95 south and Arch Street where they determined that the driver of a Jeep Cherokee, identified as Gregory F Whalen, 73, of Suffern, NY was exhibiting signs of intoxication.

Mr. Whalen was unable to perform standard field sobriety tests to standard.

He subsequently refused to submit to a breath sample for chemical analysis at police headquarters.

According to Lt Slusarz, refusal to cooperate with breath sample chemical analysis results in suspension of your license, which is automatic for 24 hours. Then there is a DMV hearing to determine the length of the suspension.

According to Lt Slusarz, Mr. Whalen pulled into the underground garage off Arch Street onto the platform and thenbacked onto Arch Street.

He was charged with DUI and Unsafe Backing and has a date in Stamford Superior Court on May 16, 2019. He was able to post his $250 bond and was released.
