DUI for Driver Who Straddled Double Yellow Line, Hit Curb on Traffic Circle

On Saturday around 3:30am police observed a car traveling north on Havemeyer Lane between Stewart Drive and Northridge Rd straddling the double yellow line.

While negotiating the traffic circle at Havemeyer and Northridge, the driver hit the eastern most curb line with his rear passenger tire.

Police stopped the car and while speaking with the driver said they smelled alcoholic beverage and the driver slurred his words.

The driver, Alejandro Miguel, Ahumada, 26, or James Lane in Stamford was charged with Failure to Drive in Proper Lane, DUI and Driving While Under Suspension.

“We know people shouldn’t be driving when they’re intoxicated. A clue is when a car is driving down the road over the line and hitting the curb when they’re going around curves,” Slusarz said. “A cop was behind him and pulled him over.”

Mr. Ahumada was unable to perform field sobriety tests to standard.

He was released on $250 bond and has a date in Stamford Superior Court on Dec 2, 2019.
