Driver Who Fled Motor Vehicle Stop and Crashed Faces Multiple Charges

On Wednesday just after midnight, Greenwich Police spotted a dark colored sedan with Florida plates fail to obey a traffic control system. Police attempted to stop the car in the area of Old Field Point Road, but the vehicle fled the area.

While checking the area for the vehicle, officers located it unoccupied and crashed at the intersection of St Roch Ave and Holly Hill Lane.

The driver was identified as Joel Junior Medina, 21, of Bronx, NY.

Police say their investigation revealed that the car had crashed while trying to leave the area.

The Police K9 track showed the route the Mr. Medina took from the vehicle, and a motor vehicle inventory of the car found two stolen plates from New York, a cell phone and a GPS tracking device.

A Dept of Motor Vehicles inquiry revealed that the license plate was expired and Medina had a suspended New York driver’s license.

He was charged with:

Operating Unregistered Motor Vehicle
Disobeying Signal of Officer
Engaging Police in Pursuit
Traffic Control Signals
Operating Motor Vehicle without License
Larceny 6 (2 counts)

He was unable to post his $2,500 bond and has a date in Stamford Superior Court on Sept 20,2023.
