Convicted Felon Busted for Illegal Gun at Greenwich Weigh Station

On Thursday night, while troopers from the Truck Squad conducted routine safety inspections of tractor trailer trucks at the Greenwich weigh station on I-95, a truck driven by Carlos Echevarria, was directed to park for a secondary safety inspection.

The truck, owned by Jalliam Transportation Inc., had an audible air leak.

During the inspection, an unsecured .40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun was located in the sleeper portion of the truck’s cab. The handgun had one round in the chamber and 10 additional rounds in a high capacity magazine.

Through the course of the investigation troopers determined that Mr. Echevarria was a convicted felon. Therefore he cannot possess a handgun.

Mr. Echevarria was taken into custody and transported to Troop G-Bridgeport were he was fingerprinted and photographed. He was held on $25,000 bond pending his court date in Stamford on June 30. The handgun was seized and transported to Troop G where it was held as evidence.

Echevarria, of Hollywood, Florida was charged with Criminal Possession of a Pistol, Weapons in a Vehicle, Violation of Large Capacity Magazine, Permit to Sell/Carry Pistol.
