Arrest Made in Greenwich Rental Property Fraud

On March 12, 2019 a local resident reported that they were the victim of a financial fraud. The victim owns a property out of state and rents it through an on-line listing.

A subject contacted the victim and agreed to rent the property. He then sent a check to the victim in excess of the amount agreed upon.

The suspect then called the victim and requested a refund of the excessive amount.

The victim transferred the money and later was advised that the check she was given was fraudulent.

Greenwich Police conducted an investigation into this incident and developed probable cause to believe that Jelil Olawale Aboila, 23, of Newark NJ was responsible for the alleged scam.

An arrest warrant was then applied for and issued.

On January 13, 2020 the Harrison New Jersey Police Department contacted the Greenwich Police Dept and advised that they had stopped Aboila in their jurisdiction.

Mr. Aboila was subsequently taken into custody.

On January 29, 2020 officers with the Greenwich Police Department Warrants and Extraditions Unit responded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility and took custody of Aboila.

Mr. Aboila was charged with Telephone Fraud 3 and Larceny 3.

Aboila was unable to post the court set bond of $50,000 and was subsequently held for next day arraignment.
