Arrest Made after Greenwich Police Officers Jump Out of Way of Fleeing Vehicle Outside Bank

Greenwich Police arrested a Bronx, NY man on Tuesday night around 10:00pm after an incident outside a bank on Railroad Ave in central Greenwich.

Police say officers on patrol in central Greenwich spotted a suspicious vehicle parked and occupied outside of a bank. They simultaneously spotted a man in the bank acting suspiciously near the ATM machines.

They determined the vehicle had a non-valid registration and the driver could not provide identification.

Officers spoke with the people in the car who acknowledged they had come to town from New York City to use the ATM. As the man in the bank exited and approached officers, the car began to speed away in an attempt to flee.

Officers had to jump out of the way of the vehicle, which nearly collided with a parked car.

When officers attempted to detain the man acting suspiciously in the bank, he fled on foot. Officers pursued him for several blocks before apprehending him and placing him under arrest.

The suspect was identified as Chukwuebuka Okeke, 19. He was charged with Interfering with an Officer and assigned a court date in Stamford on Dec 21, 2021.

He was able to post the required 10% of his $1,000 bond and was released.
