On Dec 15 Greenwich Police arrested a Lawrence, MA woman following an investigation into an alleged check washing incident.

Police said Yamilex Castro, 36, was charged with Larceny 2, Identity Theft 1 and Forgery 1 after she surrendered based on an outstanding warrant.

The warrant originated from a victim reporting a check washing incident back on May 29, 2025.

The victim had placed a check in the mailbox at the USPS in Old Greenwich at 33 Arcadia Road. The victim then realized her bank account was charged twice for $4,900.

After investigation, Greenwich Police detectives were able to prove that the washed checks were written out to Ms Castro.

She was unable to post her $50,000 bond and remained in police custody.

Ms Castro has a date in Stamford Superior Court on Dec 29, 2025.
