Alert Cops Stop Suspicious Driver in OG, Find Loaded Gun and Drugs

On Friday Greenwich Police spotted a black Jeep Compass around 2:30am driving suspiciously through several Riverside and Old Greenwich neighborhoods previously targeted by criminals for stolen cars and vehicle break ins.

Officers stopped the Jeep on Arch Street in Old Greenwich and immediately detected a strong odor of marijuana through the Jeep’s open window.

Police say the driver, Anthony Albert Belmont, 25, of Stamford, had glassy red eyes and admitted to smoking marijuana prior to driving.

When instructed to get out of the car, Belmont attempted to discard a small, glassine baggie containing two small round blue pills onto the ground.

Belmont had a metallic spice grinder with less than a half ounce of suspected marijuana and a fully loaded twelve round 9mm handgun magazine.

While being detained, Belmont admitted to being in possession of a loaded handgun under his driver seat.

A search of the car yielded a 9mm Ruger with a fully loaded ten round magazine under the driver seat as well as a large glass smoking pipe that contained suspected marijuana residue in the back seat.

Belmont admitted ownership of both items. A firearms records check revealed he did not possess a valid CT pistol permit.

He was placed under arrest and brought to GPD headquarters where he refused to submit to chemical testing.

The seized suspected marijuana tested positive for the presence of THC and the blue pills were identified as Clonazepam, which Belmont did not have a prescription for.

He was charged with Weapons in a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Large Capacity Magazine, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession Less than Half Oz Marijuana, DUI, Failure to Have Two Working Marker Lamps.

He was unable to post his court set $25,000 bond and has an appearance in Stamford Superior Court on May 28, 2021.

Also charged was Fabio Volcimus, 20, of Stamford. Police say Volcimus was a passenger in the Jeep, though he could not provide positive identification. Search of his person revealed a small quantity of a waxy substance that later tested positive for the presence of THC. He had a metallic smoking pipe and a spice grinder he admitted was used for smoking marijuana and the wax. he was charged with Possession of Marijuana, less than half ounce, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

His bond was set at $500 which he was not able to post. He shares a date in Stamford Superior Court with Belmont on May 28, 2021.
