A Riverside resident, Jaden C Williams, 26, who was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery in Riverside Commons on Tuesday now faces additional gun charges related to the incident.
Around 10:00am Tuesday, Jan 28, Police responded to 1239 E Putnam Ave on a report of Robbery that had just taken occurred where a firearm was displayed. Reports were that a Black male suspect had attempted to leave the store without paying for merchandise in his possession. The suspect was confronted by a store employee who told the suspect that he needed to pay for the merchandise.
From there, Captain Patrick Smyth said the suspect then pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the store employee. The employee backed away and the suspect fled the area on foot. On scene investigation determined the identity of the suspect as Mr. Williams. Police responded to his residence where he was arrested and charged with Robbery 1st Degree with Deadly Weapon (Class B Felony) and Larceny 6th Degree (misdemeanor).

On Wednesday afternoon police issued a press release via Facebook saying they had obtained a search warrant for Mr. Williams’ residence which was executed without incident.
Police said that during their search, Detectives seized a black “Glock-like” pistol with two empty 10 round 9mm magazines within a Vault pistol case.
“A function test was performed on the weapon which involves dry firing the firearm and racking the slide with a depressed trigger,” police said. “The firearm successfully cycled and reset the trigger, which is indicative that it would discharge a live round.”
Additionally, investigators noted that the firearm had no serial numbers engraved on any portion that was visible to investigators on inspection.
Williams was additionally charged with Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit, Illegal Manufacturing of a Firearm With No Serial Number, and Illegal Possession of a Firearm With No Serial Number.
According to the CT Judicial Branch case lookup Mr. Williams’ bond was set at $250,000, and he was not released from custody. He is next due in court on April 2, 2025.
