4 Philadelphians Killed on I-95 in Stamford after SUV Crashes into Tractor Trailer

Around 3:05 am on Saturday, Troopers from Troop G responded to a two- vehicle crash on I-95 northbound in the area of Exit 8 in Stamford.

According to CT State Police, their preliminary investigation revealed a tractor trailer was traveling at a very slow rate of speed in heavy traffic on I-95 northbound in the center lane of three, approximately one tenth of a mile south of Exit 8. For an unknown reason an SUV traveling behind the tractor trailer failed to stop, striking the rear of the truck.

Both involved vehicles came to positions of uncontrolled final rest in the center lane. The truck driver, identified as Lorquet Moise, 45, from Elmwood Park New Jersey, was uninjured as a result of the collision.

The occupants of the SUV – a driver and three passengers – sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene. According to information provided by state police all four victims were from Philadelphia, PA: Joel Contreras-Paniagua, 49, Lorena Contreras Francisco Reyes, 59, Joel Contreras Francisco, 29 and Daniel Contreras Francisco, 23.

A next-of-kin notification was subsequently made. Both of the vehicles involved sustained disabling damage and were towed by East Coast Towing.

The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad responded to the scene to assist with scene processing.
