Update on Sidewalks on Shore “SOS” from Maggie Bound and Kristen Beecher in Old Greenwich
This spring we have a very exciting opportunity to come together as residents of Greenwich and get a sidewalk to the Causeway before Tod’s Point.
Why do we need a sidewalk? Over 500,000 people come to Tod’s Point just in the summer season – and ten percent of those visitors arrive on foot.
• Tod’s Point is Greenwich’s crown jewel, a 147.3 acre park, and the most popular park in all of Greenwich. During the summer, children and adults come and go – either to enjoy the beach, attend Kamp Kairphree or Sandpipers, lifeguard, or attend the sailing classes at Tod’s Point. There is no safe sidewalk for the lifeguards/runners/people walking to Tod’s.

• The road to Tod’s winds through a residential area. During the school year, there are 26 School bus stops on that portion of Shore Road. There is no safe place for school children to wait for their bus, or walk home from their bus. It is therefore not surprising that it is the most often requested project that Department of Public Works receives from residents.
• Why now? Greenwich has blossomed with young families and active workers since Covid, who, according to the 2024 Greenwich Town wide survey, enjoy the beaches and parks more than ever.
Now is the time to show your support and get this done.
