Weather Alert: Beware Black Ice Sunday Night into Monday Morning

Southern Fairfield County is being warned to brace for very slippery conditions throughout Sunday night into 4:30am on Monday.

There is a chance of freezing rain Sunday afternoon.

Temperatures will plummet through the night to well below freezing. The NWS forecasts a low of around 6°. Sunday night will be blustery, with a northwest wind around 22 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph.

As the temperatures fall there residual moisture and leftover standing water on area roads will lead to area of black ice.

Driving or walking should be prepared for slipper roads and walkways, and are advised to use extra caution.

Martin Luther King day will be mostly clear and blustery with a low around 12°.

The NWS extended forecast is for temps to go into the 40°s on Wednesday and Thursday.
