PASTORE: US Colleges and Universities “Talk the Talk” about Ending Mental Health Stigma

Sunday’s event at Arch Street Teen Center on mental health resources was awesome. I’m grateful that our community has embraced #EndtheStigma.

Kudos to the Yale students and alumni, and to Washington Post (Nov. 12) & Greenwich Time (Nov 16) reporters for covering how universities and colleges across America talk the talk about “ending the stigma” and “ supporting recovery“ regarding student mental health concerns, but they sure don’t walk that talk.

Yale students and alumni are rallying for more fair,  expedient protocols and processes regarding students whose anonymously reported mental health treatment (so much for HIPAA privacy) raises eyebrows, judgment and endless formal inquisitions set forth with excruciating slowness, implied criticism an judgement by administrators, deans and  protocol executors, per Saturday’s Washington Post and Tuesday’s Greenwich Time.

It’s time to #EndTheStigma instead of persecuting and manifesting the stigma.
