Lucy Williams, 100

Lucy (Vardy) Williams, longtime resident of Greenwich passed away on Jan 30, 2025 in Florida with family members at her side. Lucy was 100 years old.

Lou as she preferred to be called, arrived in Greenwich in 1948 from Newfoundland to seek a better opportunity in life. She lived with her Aunt and Uncle until she married John Williams. She was a full time homemaker to four children and worked  part time at different restaurants like Nielsen’s Ice Cream Shops.

Lou and John went on to work on different estates in Greenwich. During retirement Lucy volunteered answering the phone at the American Red Cross of Greenwich, as well as working part time at the Greenwich Library.

She drove to an alternative day program in Stamford to achieve her GED at the age of 89. The teenage students called her “Grandma.”

After her husband’s death she resided in the Hill House for numerous years and was a  frequent customer at a local coffee shop. There she loved the social interaction with other people in the morning. Lou relocated to Florida in 2020, to live with her daughter and near a son.

Lucy was pre deceased by her husband John of 49 years and her son, Gary (George). She is survived by her son’s John, and Robert/Fix-it (Peg), her daughter Mary Beth and daughter in law, Yvonne Roth Williams of the Netherlands.  Lou also had 5 granddaughters, Dineen, Cory, Annie, Erin and Ireland.

A funeral mass to celebrate Lucy’s life will be Tuesday June 17 at 10:00 am at St. Catherine of Siena in Riverside. Interment will follow at Putnam / St. Mary’s Cemetery on Parsonage Road Greenwich.
