John Andrew passed away at the age of 81 on July 4, 2026, at his home in
Byram, CT, the area of Greenwich where he was born and had lived his entire life. He graduated from Greenwich High School in 1962 and had a career in electronics engineering. He was predeceased by his father John Gordon Andrew and mother Ruth Louise Loew Andrew.
Fond memories of John from his friends and neighbors:
John was an incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable man whose wisdom touched the lives of many. Despite all that he knew, he remained humble and kind. He had a special love of animals and a heart far bigger than he let on. He loved boats and spent many hours sailing and rowing his boats in the Byram Harbor and beyond. Those who knew him would smile when remembering his stubborn side, but it was always accompanied by generosity, loyalty and compassion.
He enjoyed river cruises down the Mississippi River and a transatlantic crossing on the Queen Mary II as well as other travel adventures in the USA. John loved books, especially nautical and classical literature, and read The Wall Street Journal daily. He was a self-taught man, an autodidact, on many subjects and was always eager to discuss what he learned with you.
John had a unique way of making people feel valued. At many of his medical appointments, he would proudly tell the nurses that they were his “angels” and how lucky he was to have met them.
John leaves behind memories of laughter, meaningful conversations and the quiet acts of kindness that defined his character. When two of his neighbor’s children were small girls, he gave them a microphone so they could be heard and develop confidence. He will be remembered for hissharp mind, his strong spirit and big heart.
Jack had many friends and neighbors who will miss him, and whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
