There will be a memorial service for John D. Munnelly on Friday September 6th at 11:00 am in St. Catherine’s Chapel.
It is with sadness that we share news of the passing of John Desmond Munnelly of Greenwich. Son of the late Jack and Mary (O’Malley) Munnelly of Greenwich, John passed away on August 1, 2019.
Born here in town on September 30, 1944, John was an all-star swimmer and student.
John graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Greenwich and Providence College in Rhode Island where he excelled in debate and as swim team captain. A lifelong Greenwich resident, he also worked for Greenwich as a Town employee.
Johnny is predeceased by his parents as well as his brother Gary Munnelly and sister-in-law Leslie Munnelly. He is survived by his loving sister Maureen Pastore (Tony), brother Michael Brendan Munnelly (Susan), sister Nancy Munnelly and brother Thomas Munnelly of Nantucket. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews (Jessica, Rebecca, David, McKenzie, Ryan, Heather, Piper and Augustus) whom he enjoyed visiting with.
Johnny was a smart, lovely and kind soul and was loved by everyone who knew him. He will be missed.
A memorial celebration of his life will be held at St. Catherine’s Church, date to be announced.
