The League of Women Voters of Greenwich has launched a new student committee to expand opportunities for students interested in government and civic engagement.

Nora Stern and her sister, Hannon Stern, at the League of Women Voters Greenwich 2025 annual dinner. June 4, 2025.
Nora Stern, a rising junior at Greenwich High School and incoming student representative on the LWV Greenwich Board, created the committee.
“The mission of the League is to bring voter access and education to all in a nonpartisan setting,” Nora said, adding, “This year, I wanted to further our efforts by creating a student committee, aimed to educate students about the US Government, provide volunteer opportunities for the League, and offer avenues to create real change in our community.”
The committee is open to students in grades 7-12, who live or attend school in Greenwich.
Nora said the committee will meet once a month, switching between Zoom and in person meetings, depending on the agenda. Additional volunteering opportunities and League events will be available. Meetings will span one hour, and so with the limited duration, commitment and participation is expected.
Applications are due October 1st, and applicants will hear back by October 15. Before then, there are a number of events open to students.
On July 31 from the Legislators Wrap-Up will feature Greenwich’s State Senator Ryan Fazio (R-36) and State Representatives Tina Courpas (R-149), Steve Meskers (D-150), and Hector Arzeno (D-151) will provide an overview of the past legislative session and a view to next year.
The event runs 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Burning Tree Country Club.
The event is only $5 for students, and it includes Tapas and soft drinks.
On September 29th the LWV of Greenwich is hosting debates for candidates in the November Municipal Election.
Please visit the LWV of Greenwich website for more information and where to register.
“Both these events offer a great way to learn more about our local politics, and we hope to see you there,” Nora said. “The League is so excited to broaden our youth outreach, and we can’t wait to begin!”
