Driver Spotted Swapping License Plates Faces Multiple Charges

On May 16 an undercover Greenwich Police officer in the area of Milbank Ave spotted a man replacing his rear Florida registration plate with a New York plate.

Officers in market patrol units initiated a motor vehicle stop on the car.

The suspect, later identified as Nicolas Alejandro Diaz-Gonzalez, 24, of Queens, was unable to provide insurance for the vehicle or any valid form of identification. An inventory of Diaz-Gonzalez’s property found multiple shoplifting tools.

Diaz-Gonzalez, agreed to be interviewed by detectives and confessed to coming to town to commit larceny with two other people.

He was charged with Improper Use of Marker, Illegal Alter Motor Vehicle ID Number, Driving without License, Failure to Insure Motor Vehicle, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 6, and Illegal Possession of Shoplifting Device.

Diaz-Gonzalez’s bond was set at $1,000. He was assigned a date in Stamford Superior Court on May 31, 2022.
