Up at Augustine’s Farm on King Street, farmer John and Kathy have been busy decorating wreathes, tending pointsettias in the greenhouse, and helping customers with their Christmas trees.
Did you know you can bring your Christmas tree stand with you to the farm, have them cut it to fit and attach to the stand and deliver to your house!
Augustine’s sells both Fraser Fir and Balsam Fir trees, depending on your needs. Fraser Fir are good for needle retention and strong branches if you like to pile on the ornaments. The Balsam Fir trees are known for graceful branches and a terrific fragrance.
All the trees are from a nearby farm and are fresh cut.
Of course when you stop in for a tree, you might want to check out the new table of holiday gift ideas, many of which are perfect teacher gifts.
There are fresh baked cookies, apple cider, honey from Kathy’s bees, freshly laid eggs, spinach, leeks, carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, squash, zucchini and much more.
Farmer John said the days are never done, and when the sun sets he starts pouring over seed catalogs and has ordered some “odd-ball” varieties for next summer including three-foot beans, ugly heirloom and deep purple tomatoes and knucklehead gourds.
Kathy’s pointsettias come in a variety of sizes and colors including ones with cream colored leaves with pink and red centers. She also has decorated all sizes of wreathes, though you can buy plain unadorned wreathes if you prefer.
Augustine’s Farm, at 1332 King Street in Greenwich is open daily from 9:00am til 5:00pm daily through Dec. 22.
