Crumbs is history. On Tuesday afternoon, a stop at 48 West Putnam Ave found the spotlights on over the entrance to Crumbs bakery, but the gourmet cupcakes store is closed. Links to the Crumbs website are dead.

“Regrettably Crumbs has been forced to cease operations and is immediately attending to the dislocation of its devoted employees while it evaluates its limited remaining options,” the company said in a statement to The Wall Street Journal. Those options could include a bankruptcy filing, the spokeswoman said.

A sign on the front door at Crumbs Greenwich location on Tuesday reads:

“We regret to inform you that Crumbs has closed for business. Thank you for 4 wonderful years in this location and all of your support.

The Crumbs Greenwich team,

Kim, Jason, Thomas, Patie, Greg and Kelly”

During happier times, the Greenwich Crumbs location worked with a New York City PR agency to plan events like a meet and greet with Gary Del’Abate and fundraiser for GHS Cardinals football boosters featuring named a cupcake after him, ‘The Baba Booey” and another, the “Cardinal Cupcake.”
