Beach House Café to Close in OG; Owners Will Operate Canoe in Downtown Greenwich

Sad news and good news for the many loyal fans of Beach House Café.

Kane and Vivian Xu shared a message on Nextdoor on Tuesday saying they plan to cease operation of the restaurant on Feb 28.

Beach House Café in Old Greenwich

“It has been an honor to serve the wonderful Old Greenwich community for these years,” they wrote. “We are very grateful to all of our wonderful and loyal customers that have become extended family. We have been through a lot and without your support, we wouldn’t have made it this far, especially during the early days of the pandemic.”

Indeed during the pandemic the family-friendly restaurant was a popular source delivery and the owners were able to navigate the tough times including executive orders and staffing challenges while other restaurants were less fortunate.

The restaurant owners did have good news though.

They will operate Canoe at 280 Railroad Ave, and serve many Beach House Café favorite dishes. Canoe is in the location previously home to Crew, which operated from 2007 to 2021.

Previously, Beach House operated a sister restaurant in Norwalk. That sailing-inspired restaurant was located across the street from the Norwalk River, Maritime Aquarium and the Norwalk Seaport Association in Historical South Norwalk. It opened in 2017 at the former location of Mama’s Boy restaurant, and operated there for about three years.

On Nextdoor there was an outpouring of disappointment about the news in Old Greenwich, and well wishes from longtime loyal patrons of Beach House Café, or BHC for short. But just as many shared enthusiastic plans to follow the popular eatery to Canoe in central Greenwich at 280 Railroad Ave.
