Raabe: David Alfano and a Real Estate Transaction. Republican Memories are Short to a Fault.

Submitted by Brian Raabe

Board of Estimate and Taxation Republican Primary Candidate David Alfano’s name is here:

And here:

https://portal.ct.gov/AG/Press-Releases-Archived/2009-Press-Releases/Attorney-General-Successfully-Challenges-Questionable-Agreement-To-Sell-Greenwich-Home-Secures-At-Le

There is what is outlined in these two pieces.

And there is Mr. Alfano’s seat as a Republican Member of the BET.

His recent high-water mark?

The seconding of the BET move to cut $4.0MM from the school budget.

Karen Fassuliotis made the motion, Mr. Alfano seconded – Harry Fisher broke the tie.

And $4MM in funding outlined as needed in the BOE budget evaporated.

Proud moment many in their party are revising the history of since.

Back to Mr. Alfano and the CT Post article above (its short, link here – https://www.ctpost.com/news/article/attorney-general-intervenes-in-greenwich-estate-283.php ):

First paragraph here:

The state attorney general claimed victory Friday in a legal battle stemming from 2005 that challenged the legitimacy of a sales agreement in which an elderly Greenwich woman agreed to sell her home to two men for less than half of what it was worth at the time.

It goes on to say –

“Ill and infirm, this woman supposedly signed papers while hospitalized and in the last month of her life, raising grave doubt the agreement reflected her true wishes,” said [former CT Attorney General] Blumenthal.

This was the resolution meted out by the Probate Court in response to the AG’s intervention:

“Probate Judge Daniel Caruso voided the agreement earlier this month. The house will now be offered to Lovallo and Alfano for one month at the original fair market price at $1.2 million. Blumenthal said if they fail to act on the deal, the executor of the estate will put it on the market to be sold for at least $800,000 or more.”

Short memories are on brand for Republicans

Witness the turnout for the Central Middle School construction event held this summer.

Republicans let CMS crumble into being condemned, yet there they were – in high viz yellow vests and hardhats – hamming it up for photo ops.

You’d almost believe with their big grins they willingly funded the project, versus the reality of neglect that left no alternative.

There’s an episode of Ted Lasso when he coaches a player who screwed up to be more like a goldfish.

“They have a memory of a few seconds.”

“Be more like a goldfish,” was his advice.

Good for an athlete.

Not great for running a town.

The Republican Goldfish Platform

A willingness to take credit where so far from due it’s laughable.

A memory deficit that results in a Republican seat at the Greenwich legislative table – with full knowledge of the events above.

Post Republican primary general election voters should ask whether they’re a goldfish – and can instantly forget things like school budget cuts, decade long GHS toxic remediation projects, and Hotel Zany – a Fred Camillo Project – on the Ave.

Or whether it’s time to climb out of the Greenwich Town Government primordial pond and walk upright.
