Molly Saleeby – Why I’m Running for Town Clerk

Submitted by Molly Saleeby, Democratic candidate for Town Clerk

Two years ago I ran for Town Clerk against a 28-year incumbent who’d had only one challenger before me, 8 years prior.  After the 2019 election I was steadfast in my determination to run again.  Time has flown and here we are with less than a week until Election Day 2021.  Now, my opponent is the daughter of the 30-year outgoing incumbent.

I believe turnover in government promotes transparency and benefits us all.  I believe I’m the right person to lead the Clerk’s office into the future.  I believe Greenwich deserves and needs a change.  I believe I am that change.

Simply, the office hasn’t kept up with technology.  I’ve talked with many users including real estate brokers and attorneys, business professionals, and the general public.  I’ve spent a considerable amount of time consulting with Clerks around our State and the CT Town Clerks Association and have repeatedly heard, “I’m surprised Greenwich isn’t already doing this”.   And I’ve knocked on your doors, thousands of Greenwich voters at this point, and you’ve asked for progress.  I will bring it.

I pledge to innovate and implement efficiencies for a more satisfying customer experience.  And I pledge to bring more services online like many of our peer towns.

In my view the #1 role of the Clerk should be to provide exemplary service for all in a warm and welcoming manner.  Helping people is what I do best and it brings me joy.  I was recognized with a company award for outstanding client service.  I have a public service heart and mind and a proven volunteer track record.  I’m an involved RTM member, Vice Chair of District 8 and on the Budget Overview Committee.  The Town Clerk is Secretary of the RTM and vital to its successful functioning.  My opponent is not on RTM.

My professional background includes work at Thirteen/WNET public television, TIME Magazine, and the premier law firm Skadden Arps.

I’m a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and spent my junior year at Dartmouth.

I’m a product of Greenwich Public Schools along with my many siblings, cousins, and nieces and nephews.  My family has been active in this community for over 50 years.  I love our town, my hometown.

I ask for everyone’s vote, Republicans, Democrats, Unaffiliated.  I will be a Clerk for ALL.  There is choice.  Choose qualifications and experience.  Vote for the change YOU deserve.

Thank you.  See you at the polls.
