LETTER: Camillo has worked tirelessly to support public education

Malcolm X once said, “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it day.” As the Greenwich community settles into the new academic school year, parents and students alike should question whether elected officials have provided a foundation that can propel the younger generation. Simply put, the answer is yes.

Not resting on its laurels, Greenwich’s Fred Camillo has worked tirelessly to support the betterment of public education. From his days as a history teacher in New York to his tenure on the ballfields of Greenwich, Fred continues to serve as a mentor and role model to the younger generation.

As First Selectman, Fred has only given back more to the Greenwich community. One of his biggest achievements was the passing of a $24 million plan alongside former State Senator Scott Frantz, Livvy Floren, and Mike Bocchino which helped rebuild the New Lebanon School. In addition, Fred pushed a $11.9 million renovation of the Greenwich High School stadium.

Working with Fred this summer has given me first-hand insight into how well he understands the needs of the younger generation and the further investments that need to be made to keep our education system best-in-class. Fred deeply understands the importance of good education and has always availed himself to speak with students to further improve our school environment.

Led by a former K-12 graduate of the Greenwich Public Schools, a proven leader, and most importantly, a friend of Greenwich, the future of Greenwich education will be in very good hands under a re-elected Fred Camillo.
