KRUMEICH: Erickson is ready to lead Greenwich on day one

Submitted by Elizabeth K. Krumeich, Former member Board of Estimate and Taxation

Laura Erickson, candidate for First Selectperson, is ready to lead the Greenwich community on day one.

Laura has served as Chair of the Board of Education. You do not get elected by your peers on a bi-partisan board without demonstrating your understanding of the complexities of running an exceptional public school system.

Laura has established herself as one of the stellar Town officials who has broad experience. Laura’s service on the MISA and New Lebanon building committees has given her an understanding of the budgetary process necessary to fund the renovation or replacement of a school building.

These experiences gave Laura the ability to advocate for the construction projects that would address long-standing problems in school buildings such as public safety changes to access a building, ADA compliance, sewage seeping into classrooms, HVAC system deficiencies, and the need to change the use of space that will foster a more up-to-date learning environment.

During Laura’s 4-year service on the Board of Estimate and Taxation, Laura has shown those of us fortunate enough to serve with her that she has a keen intellect, an understanding of finance that commenced during her years as a commercial banker, and an ability to study critical issues facing our Town before making decisions. Laura not only does her homework but also asks probing questions of Town department heads and fellow BET members to ensure that members understand the impact of financial decisions facing the Board.

During her tenure on the Representative Town Meeting, Laura served on the Finance and Health and Human Services Committees.

All of these years of public service have positioned Laura well to step up to serve as our First Selectperson.

Janet Stone McGuigan, candidate for Selectperson, brings her engineering and public service background to build an effective team with Laura on the Board of Selectmen.

Please join me in voting on Tuesday, November 7, for Laura Erickson, Janet Stone McGuigan and the extraordinary Democratic team (www.vote411.org), including the outstanding Democratic BET candidates who have backgrounds in finance, investments, municipal bonding, risk management, law, strategic planning and economic development.

Let’s position Greenwich well for future generations.

Note: Deadline to submit LTEs for candidates in the Greenwich municipal election on Nov 7, 2023 was Oct 30 at 12:00 noon.
