Downtown Residents: Without Police, Greenwich Ave Intersections are Chaotic and Dangerous

We are supporting Laura Erickson for First Selectperson.

Laura Erickson said 10/16 here in the GFP (ERICKSON: Public Safety is Priority #1), “I am often asked what my first priority is if elected First Selectperson – unequivocally public safety…I will fight for improving conditions for pedestrian and bicyclists. The incumbent removed police officers from Greenwich Avenue without a plan to address the traffic flow and pedestrian safety.” Laura Erickson is on record expressing concerns when it was being discussed.

Those of us who live in central Greenwich are aware of more young families and retirees moving into central Greenwich with strollers, dogs and grandchildren in tow. The need for ease in crossing Greenwich Avenue is essential since it is a challenge to navigate the Avenue with the electric bikes, scooters and distracted drivers not knowing when to proceed.

The building boom of townhouses and apartments in downtown Greenwich is adding to the congestion. In town residents want to leave their cars at home and enjoy the amenities the downtown offers on foot.

The existing condition is chaotic and dangerous. The town needs to explore mechanized signals or bring back the police on the corners. Right now, nobody knows what to do. Pedestrians and drivers hesitate which makes for an uneasy experience for everyone.

We are curious about why New York has traffic enforcement agents that are trained for three months at the police academy. We would like this explored for Greenwich.

We trust Laura Erickson will develop a plan to retain the character of downtown Greenwich and make the streets safe for pedestrians and drivers.

Vote for Laura Erickson for first Selectperson Row A.
