Barro: Partisan attack misses its mark

Submitted by Jen Barro, Greenwich

Desperation. You can practically smell it in the election-season attack Ed Dadakis and Michael Hahn are peddling in their letters against state senate candidate Jill Oberlander.

Their big revelation? In 2021, Oberlander, while a selectperson, declined to sign a statement by Fred Camillo opposing a proposed state housing bill.

The scandal? She wanted to read the statement and the proposed legislation first.

As Greenwich Time reported at the time, Oberlander said she “could not commit to a statement she had not seen nor about bills that are not finalized.”

Imagine that — an attorney and elected official insisting on knowing what she’s signing. The horror!

And the proposed housing bill they’re resurrecting, SB 1024? It never even reached the house or senate floor for a vote — never became a law.

Oberlander has been clear throughout her campaign that she stands firm on protecting local control over zoning decisions. But why let facts get in the way of a good election-season smear?

What Dadakis and Hahn are trying to spin as a liability is exactly what we need in Hartford: independent judgment, attention to detail, and the backbone to resist political pressure. It’s why you should vote for Jill Oberlander.

Editor’s note: Letters to the editor about candidates in the Nov 3, 2026 election, we will accept letters for consideration from Oct 1 to the 27. The deadline is a week before the election: Oct 27 at 12:00 noon. There is typically a backlog of letters received right up to the deadline, so we will continue to publish some of those letters after the deadline.
