ALFANO: Camillo puts Greenwich above politics

Submitted by David Alfano

Fred Camillo, our First Selectman, is running for re-election for a third term. Most of us who have grown up in this town, or lived here long enough, know Fred. For those of you who are new to town or those that do not follow local politics, I am voting for Fred again on November 7th and would like you to know why. I also would like to state that to help Fred continue accomplishing goals he set out to do in 2019, please vote for the Republican slate in Row B on your ballot.

Fred along with his running mate Lauren Rabin will be finishing their second two-year term at the end of this calendar year. Prior to being our first selectman, Fred served for 11 years as the Connecticut State Representative for the 151st District. He was also an educator and small business owner, and one of the founders of the Greenwich Recycling Company. Fred has also served on numerous boards, committees, boards, and task forces as well as numerous associations.

Fred is a Republican but operates in a bipartisan manner. He is committed to hearing all voices from his party, and the opposing one. He has done this because he puts Greenwich above politics. He is known for giving his cell phone number out to Greenwich residents, and people do call him. He answers the call and if he can’t help, he points you in the right direction. I know this from personal experience and from residents and business owners in town.

Fred and I both live in District 12. I see him most mornings walking his dog with his phone to his ear when I am driving to work. I am not sure when he is not working. I am a business owner in town and can honestly tell you I give my cell phone number to very few people.

Things that stand out in my mind on top of the excellent job he has already done managing the town during some challenging times are his work on the Public-Private Partnerships. For example, the Greenwich Land Trust’s acquisition of 80 acres of open space, construction of the GEMS station 4, and my favorite having grown up in Old Greenwich, the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center, which will reopen next year. Fred was instrumental in securing a 5-million-dollar donation from Steve and Alexandra Cohen for this project.

Fred’s focus on public safety by deploying existing resources has helped gain the town the safest ranking in Connecticut and 10th safest in the nation. He has also established a daily presence on social media for communications with the public including a weekly e-blast (Community Connection from Fred).

Elections this year are on November 7th. I strongly endorse Fred Camillo. You can find him on Row B. While voting you can also find my last name Alfano on the same Row B. I am a candidate for the BET (Board of Estimate and Taxation). Like Fred, I love our town and believe in giving back through public service.

Please vote for the entire Row B. Thank you in advance for your vote.

NOTE: Deadline to submit letters about candidates in the Nov 7 election is Oct 30, 2023 at 12:00 noon.
