Step Back in Time: Discover the Rich and Surprising History of Old Greenwich.

Old Greenwich — the oldest neighborhood in town — the oldest neighborhood in town — has a history as colorful and varied as the people who have lived there. In a fascinating talk by local historian Pat Fulkerson Larrabee, audiences will journey through centuries of stories that shaped this vibrant community.

From bustling factories and sprawling farms to grand mansions and charming inns near the waterfront, Old Greenwich has always been a place of energy and transformation. Attendees will learn about Laddins Rock Farm with its tranquil pond, and a Hollywood connection — a film partially shot here, backed by media titan William Randolph Hearst. Once a hub of publishing, the neighborhood has also been home to a remarkable array of notable residents — some well-known and others unexpected — whose stories will both surprise and delight.

This talk is richly illustrated with a PowerPoint presentation filled with rare and historic photographs, offering a captivating visual journey alongside the narrative.

The program focuses entirely on Old Greenwich itself and does not include Greenwich Point, which was the subject of a separate historical tour created in 2015 by Sue Baker and Chris Franco for the Greenwich Historical Society’s celebration of the Town’s 375th Anniversary. Larrabee developed her Old Greenwich tour for that same milestone event and has since enhanced it with exciting new discoveries, making this a not-to-be-missed experience for history buffs and locals alike.
