Pomerance and Tuchman Master Plan – Community Survey and Public Meeting

Pomerance and Tuchman offer 107 acres of ecologically and historically rich open space right in the heart of Cos Cob.

The existing trail network provides excellent opportunities for hiking and passive recreation, as they pass through forests and meadows, over brooks, around rocky hills, and along a 4-acre pond.

Through these trails, visitors encounter remnants of the rich history, such as the “Hobbit House” located just outside the entrance, and the physical remnants of the former house of Ernest Thompson Seton, who helped establish the Boy Scouts of America in the early twentieth century.  Altogether, these elements form a truly unique identity for the Pomerance and Tuchman properties.

While Pomerance and Tuchman is a thriving unique pair of parcels, the wear and tear of increasing use, and other ecological, and environmental challenges could potentially degrade the qualities of the site that make these properties such an attraction. The Master Plan being developed will focus on addressing those issues and more, by identifying future maintenance, historic preservation, improvements, and opportunities for increasing visitor engagement.

A vital component of this Master Plan is to seek input from the community on what they think should be incorporated into the Master Plan. To this end, a community survey has been developed, and a series of public meetings will be held to gather that feedback.

Joe Siciliano, Director of Parks & Recreation stated “Any successful Master Plan needs to reflect the community’s vision for what is needed. The community survey and public meetings are a great opportunity for people to provide input and guide the Master Plan development. I’m very excited to hear what kind of ideas come from this public outreach.”
