Merry, Bright and Waste Free Holidays Webinar Set for Dec 15

‘Tis the season for joy, traditions, celebration… and waste!

Americans produce one million extra tons of trash than the rest of the year between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. Don’t let waste dim the holiday spirit.

On Thursday, December 15 at 9:30-10:30 am, the PTA Council Green Schools Committee of Greenwich Public Schools, in collaboration with Greenwich Conservation Commission and Waste Free Greenwich, will host a virtual event featuring practices and tips to green your holiday celebration.

Join Sarah Coccaro, Assistant Director of Environmental Affairs for the Town of Greenwich and Julie DesChamps, founder of Waste Free Greenwich to explore sustainable swaps from decor and wrapping to gifts and cooking to create a merry, bright and waste free holiday season.

“Americans generate significantly more trash – around 25% more – during the holiday season, the majority from gifting and meals. Many of those commonly used items, like ribbons and bows, styrofoam packaging, and sparkly wrapping paper cannot be recycled, and so much food is tossed in the trash instead of donated or composted,” DesChamps said in a release. “This takes a heavy toll because all this material is incinerated at a cost to public health, our environment and our wallets.”
