The Town of Greenwich’s Freedom Day Celebration of “Juneteenth” is set for Wednesday, June 19, 2024 from 12:00pm to 1:30pm at Greenwich Town Hall.
There will be a ceremony, pr0oclamation and flag raising followed by Ailey Arts in Education and community programs interactive rhythm and movement community workshop.
What do West African Dance and Hip-Hop have in common? Join Ailey Arts In Education dancers and percussionists to experience both dance traditions through an introductory interactive rhythm and movement presentation.
Participants learn about the basic rhythmic structure of indigenous West African music, the cultures that create it, and how it influences Hip-Hop culture today.
Bring the whole family to show your moves in the finale of the workshop, a community circle “Dance Off!”
The event is being sponsored by the First Selectman’s Diversity Advisory Committee, the Town of Greenwich, and the Greenwich Youth Services Bureau.
