The Greenwich Botanical Center at 130 Bible Street in Cos Cob announces the following upcoming events!

Acorn Garland Workshop for kids!
Saturday, November 18 | 10AM-12PM

Kids will use acorns as a base, to paint, decorate and turn into beads; and string into a festive fall garland! Our art-use acorns will be pre-baked (to avoid bringing home critters) and pre-drilled for ease of art-making and stringing. Class time will also include a scavenger style search for the abundance of acorns found naturally on our park grounds. We will discuss what’s behind the fall drop of acorns while on a fresh air walk; the cycles and ecosystems of the trees that surround us. Class time includes a themed story time, a fresh-air scavenger hunt and take-home acorn art project to enjoy. All materials will be provided. This is a drop off class for ages 3-7.

Thanksgiving Centerpiece Workshop With Christina Koether Of Nomadica

Christina Koether of Nomadica will lead the class in creating a bold, seasonal centerpiece to grace your Thanksgiving table. Christina is the founder of Nomadica, a floristry and garden design business located in nearby Weston, CT, committed to organic, sustainable, and local growing and sourcing practices. Join us to use sensational local blooms to create the jewel of your Thanksgiving table! Flowers, materials, and vessel included.

Thanksgiving Family Floral Design Workshop

Bring the kids along (optional) to learn the basics of centerpiece making just in time for Thanksgiving. Together we will help you craft an artistic and festive centerpiece for you to feature during your family feast. An assortment of flowers and a choice of seasonal color palettes will be available to choose from.  Recommended ages 5 & up, parent/ caregiver must be present. Priced per centerpiece (if you would like to make 2 you may). Flowers and materials will be provided. If you would like to incorporate your own candles, gourds, flowers, berries and/or dried/preserved elements into your own centerpieces, feel free to bring them along.

Private Wreath Decorating Parties 11/28-12/8/2023

Grab your friends for some holiday cheer and get creative putting together some festive decorations for your home.  A variety of greens, ribbons, cones, seed pods, etc. will be available for wreaths, swags, mantles, urns and centerpieces as well as holiday plants to brighten up your home – you can shop the greenhouse for additional seasonal flair! Please indicate below if you would like to order wine, seltzer and a beautiful cheese platter from Greenwich Cheese Company and we will take care of the nibbles. Or make it a festive fete for a tween or teen with a winter birthday! We will contact each host to arrange preferred timing for each session- 4-6:00, 5-7:00, or 6-8:00pm.

Winter Holiday Containers

Clay-Dough Holiday “Cookies” Workshop!

Kids will start class by making their clay-dough material from scratch; learning to mix the recipe of safe and sensory engaging ingredients together. We will then roll and sculpt our clay-dough material into fun-filled (*non-edible) cookie creations. We will use different natural elements to make a variety of decorative textures; press with bark, roll with pinecones, and even explore the marks and patterns of fingerprints! Kids will have the option to finish off their *decorative cookies* with tiny, naturally found treasure embellishments of their choosing. Children will have so much fun in this very hands-on class;  building their cookie creations, using their imagination and their fine motor skills. Class time includes a themed story-time and a fresh-air field trip walk around our beautiful park grounds. Come dressed for the weather and loads of creative play! All materials will be provided and kids will take home their collection of “creative cookies” at the end of class to enjoy at home! This is a drop-off class for ages 3-7.

Holiday Wreath Decorating Workshop
Monday, December 4 | 6:00pm

Grab a friend or come make a new one and learn how to make a beautiful holiday wreath using natural and enhanced decorations such as seed pods, pinecones, luxe ribbon, dried berries, and more. We will have refreshments on hand to accompany the learning and merriment!

Natural Printmaking/Holiday Paper Workshop for Kids! 
Saturday, December 9 | 10:00am-12:00pm

Kids will explore the basics (and joys) of printmaking on large paper compositions! Class will use a variety of shapes, colors, block-stamps and textures to roll, blot and pattern-make into compositions. We will explore different natural elements; making a variety of decorative patterns and textures: creating patterns with textured paint rollers, pressing with bark, rolling with pinecones, and choosing from an assortment of block-stamp shapes. Class time includes a themed story-time and a fresh-air field trip walk around our beautiful park grounds where kids will be encouraged to look for more “pattern-making potentials” in the abundant natural treasures. All materials will be provided. Kids will take home their collection of large scale sheets of their prints – to enjoy at home and even use for upcoming holiday gift wrap. Come dressed for the weather and loads of creative play! This is a drop-off class for ages 3-7.
