Father Richard Murphy, was installed as the Grand Marshal of the 49th annual Greenwich St. Patrick’s Parade by the Greenwich Hibernian Association on Saturday evening, March 8, at the organization’s annual St. Patrick’s dinner dance. The Parade will be held on March 23 at 2:00pm.

Father Murphy born and raised in Stamford, Ct. In 1989 he entered the St. John Fischer seminary residence and continued his education to earn a bachelor degree at Sacred Heart University, then to Major Seminary at Immaculate Conception Seminary at Seton Hall. He was ordained a priest in 1996 at St. Augustine Cathedral in Bridgeport.
His first assignment was St. Thomas the Apostle in Norwalk, after that St. Cecilia in Stamford, then as pastor he was assigned to St. Theresa in Trumbull followed by being made pastor of Our Lady of Peace in Stratford, In 2014 he was assigned to St. Michael parish in Greenwich.
Father Murphy’s ancestors came from counties Wexford and Kilkenny in Ireland. He presently serves as chaplain of the Greenwich Police Department and the Greenwich Knights of Columbus.
