Christ Church Greenwich Presents “Follow the Star: Nativities of the World” with an opening night patron party and exhibit on Nov 8. The exhibit runs from November 9 – 11.
The Arts and Spirit Committee of Christ Church Greenwich is pleased to announce an extraordinary event taking place this November 8-11: Follow the Star: Nativities of the World.
This marks the 10th anniversary of the successful show, which originally took place in 2008. The exhibit will include over 70 nativity scenes donated by local residents from several churches, who have collected them in an array of sizes from around the world. Some are sophisticated, hauntingly lovely works of art, created by master craftsmen. Others are done by simple artisans, who use locally available materials to tell the story the only way they know how, in terms of their own lives – where they live and what flora and fauna flourish there, as well as what their families and neighbors look like, wear and value. While the differences between the scenes provide a fascinating study in cross-cultural anthropology, what unites them is far more significant. Together they reinforce the universality of the life-changing story of the birth of Jesus Christ, serving as vivid reminders that He came to save us all.
Project Co-Chairs include Penny Winters from Christ Church Greenwich and Jenny Forti from Stanwich Congregational Church. Honorary Chair is Kay Langan from Christ Church.
The nativity exhibit will kick-off on Thursday evening, November 8, with a Patron Preview Party from 6pm to 9pm with live music, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are $100 – $500/each. Guests will also get a chance to meet Christ Church’s new rector, The Rev’d Marek Zabriskie.
The exhibit will be on view Friday, November 9 and Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 9:00am – 5:00pm and on Sunday, November 11 from 11:00am – 4:00pm. Both the opening night festivities and exhibit will be in the Christ Church Parish Hall, 254 East Putnam Avenue, Greenwich, CT 06830. Free parking is available on the church property.
General admission from Nov. 9 – 11 will be $10 for adults, $5 for teens ages 13 – 17 and free for children 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance online at: http://christchurchgreenwich.org/follow-the-star/
School groups are invited to attend free of charge on Friday, November 9 but must schedule an appointment beforehand.
During the nativity exhibit, the Christ Church Books & Gifts Store adjacent to the Parish Hall will be open during the same hours. Manager, Becky Ford, will be selling a wonderful array of nativity sets, holiday décor, gifts and jewelry and books that will be perfect for the holidays.
On Saturday and Sunday, there will be a professional photographer who will take family portraits for an additional discounted fee.
Proceeds from this event will benefit Christ Church Greenwich non-profit partners Neighbor-to-Neighbor and Domus Kids.
