Bobby Walker Jr. To Be New CEO of Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich

Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich has selected Bobby Walker, Jr. to serve as its fifth leader.  Walker will become BGCG’s new CEO effective July 1, 2014.

Bobby is a seasoned educator, administrator and coach who has spent two decades working with young people. He is currently Head of the Middle School at King in Stamford, CT, where he has served since 2005.  At King, Bobby also teaches 8th grade history and serves on the Admissions Committee and the Strategic Plan Task Force.  From 2000 to 2005, Bobby was Dean of Middle School Students at McDonogh School, a boarding and day school in Owings Mills, MD.  Bobby launched his teaching career in 1995 at his alma mater, St. Marks School of Texas in Dallas, where he taught U.S. History, Language Arts and Life Skills.  In 1998, Bobby became Assistant Head of the St. Marks Middle School.

“Bobby’s background is perfectly suited to Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich,” said Lisa Stuart, BGCG Board President in a release.  “We are thrilled that Bobby has agreed to lead the Club as it continues to extend its service to our community.  He has spent most of his career working with young people, and he and his family have deep roots in the Greenwich community.  He has a true passion for leading, teaching and encouraging kids.  Bobby will be an outstanding role model for our Club members.”

The youngest of eight children, Bobby grew up in Dallas.  From ages 12 to 15, he participated in an independent school program run by the Boys Club of Dallas.  After graduating from St. Marks, Bobby attended Williams College, where he received a B.A. in History in 1995.

At Williams, Bobby played football and was also on the track and field team.  He was a six-time All-American and national champion in the hammer throw.  Upon graduation, he received the prestigious Purple Key Award as the college’s top overall male athlete, as well as the Muhammad Kenyatta Community Service Award.  He was also distinguished as the Division III Male Athlete of the Year by the New England College Athletic Conference.

“I am truly honored to be selected as the CEO of Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich.  As a young man, the Boys Club of Dallas played an integral role in my life when I needed guidance and support. This is what Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich can do for every child who walks through its doors.  Working with the dedicated staff at the Club, I am eager to build on the work that has already taken place, and discover new ways to prepare Greenwich youth to ‘realize their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.'”

Bobby’s wife, Becky Mallory Walker, is well-known to many Greenwich residents.  She has served as Middle School Head at Greenwich Academy since 2005.  The Walkers have two young daughters and a son who attend local schools.
