Bill Nickerson to Receive 2024 David N. Theis Award for Outstanding Service to the Community

Update: This article has been updated to reflect that the event has been moved to Thursday, October 17.

The Glenville Volunteer Fire Company (GVFC) will mark the tenth anniversary of presenting the David N. Theis Award for Outstanding Service to the Community by honoring William H. “Bill” Nickerson for his history of service to the town of Greenwich.

Nickerson’s nearly 40 years of service to Greenwich started in 1969 as a member of the RTM, and continued with his election as both a state representative and state senator.

His dedication exemplifies the spirit of Dave Theis, and the Glenville Volunteer Firefighters are excited to recognize his hard work on behalf of our town and honor Bill with this year’s award.

The award ceremony will be held on Thursday, October 17, at Tamarack Country Club.

Doors will open for a cocktail reception at 6:00pm, and the ceremony begins at 7:00pm.

Previous attendees and sponsors will receive an invitation this summer, but anyone wishing to attend or become a sponsor of the event, and celebrate Bill’s years of service can contact GVFC by emailing [email protected] or calling (203) 532-9606.

The award was created to memorialize the life of Selectman David Noble Theis, who passed away unexpectedly in 2014. It celebrates Dave’s spirit of leadership by example and recognizes selfless, compassionate service to the town’s people and organizations.

Previous recipients include Mary Hull, Livvy Floren, Icy and Scott Frantz, Ed Dadakis, Bea and Peter Crumbine, Larry Simon, and Terry Betteridge, as well as Past Fire Chief Dan Warzoha (honored posthumously) and Kerrin Coyle (also honored posthumously, with Jack Kriskey accepting on her behalf).

The Glenville Volunteer Fire Company, founded in 1903, is dedicated to protecting the lives and property of the citizens of Greenwich. Through its fundraising efforts, the GVFC has been able to acquire specialized equipment that greatly enhances our mission to serve Greenwich.
