Virtual Magic Circle with Voting Set for Saturday at 6pm

The Greenwich High School Theater department invites the community to watch to Magic Circle, a virtual, student written, acted and directed performance online.

This year 30 students have written and acted in plays ranging across a variety of genres, each varying from 2 to 10 minutes.

The website featuring the student plays launches Saturday, June 6, at 6:00pm.

There is a voting period for each genre from 6:00 to 10:00pm where winners are later announced on the website.

According to Lily Bartels, before the coronavirus, GHS theater students were planning to have a show composed of student written, directed and acted scenes.

“We rehearsed and wrote these scenes for about a month prior to school closings and quarantine,” she said. “In an effort to find new ways to hold our show, we created podcasts that have our scenes in them.”

The live aspect of the virtual Magic Circle will create a similar level of interactiveness to a live show at GHS.

On the student designed website, there is an ability to live chat and voting on which scenes you like best.

The voting will close at 10:00 pm Saturday night and the theater dept will announce the winners on the website.

“We will also be holding Instagram Lives, live tweeting and other forms to connect with our audience,” Lily said.

The website will be open through summer, but the live feature of it creates an ability to vote and immerse yourself in a theater experience.
