Greenwich Alliance’s Storymobile Destroyed in Sunday’s Wind Storm

storymobile 3The Greenwich Alliance for Education’s early literacy vehicle hit the road in 2008 and was a delightful mobile classroom for thousands of Greenwich’s preschool children.  Unfortunately, a tree fell on the Storymobile on Sunday morning where it was parked at Baptist Church on Indian Rock Lane and created enough damage to make the RV no longer operable. No one was inside and no one was hurt.

“This is sad news for the Alliance,” said Julie Faryniarz, Executive Director,  “Our Storymobile serviced over 300 children every year and was a part of the early literacy programs of seven area preschools including Head Start, making multiple visits to the schools each year. This program was offered entirely free to the preschools it served.  For now, we will figure out if we can move inside at the schools to deliver this curriculum-rich program filled with stories, songs, vocabulary and poetry taught by our talented presenters.”

Early literacy remains a high priority for the Greenwich Alliance for Education and we will figure out another way to reach our town’s youngest learners. To make a donation to the Greenwich Alliance for Education and to learn more visit our website www.greenwichalliance.org.

Let’s rally around the Greenwich Alliance for Education on this, right now. I suggest we hold a brown bag lunch fundraiser. For one day, let’s all of us skip buying our lunch out, every Greenwich student, faculty member, business community member. Go to the Greenwich Alliance for Education’s website and donate $10.00 the amount you would pay for 1 lunch out. Hedge Fund officer workers do this, too. If every student in the Greenwich Public schools donates $10.00 we will raise 58,000 in one day! Faculty members you can add another $10,000 to this figure and everyone who works in Greenwich on a daily basis and eats out their lunch, this will add another $50,000K.

Go to the Greenwich Alliance for Education’s website at: greenwichalliance.org or call them at:
    (203) 340-2323

Donate $10 right now! If every one of us skips eating out for 1 day and brings a brown bag to school and work instead, we can raise enough money to put the bookmobile back on the road!

    I also suggest that following

That the Greenwich Library donates 25K to the Alliance
That the United Way donates $15K to the Alliance
That AQR donates $10K to the Alliance
That W.R. Berkely donates $10K to the Alliance
That the Greenwich Education Group donate $15K
That Greenwich Admissions Advisors donate $5K
    That Greenwich Academy donate $5K
    That Brunswick Academy donate $5K
That the Junior League donate $5K
    That Greenwich Hospital donate $5K
That Children’s Medical Group donate $10K
Every Town employee donate $10.00 TODAY to the Greenwich Alliance for Education

I am donating my lunch money right now, today!

Let’s do this GREENWICH. Let’s get a new Storymobile on the road in 90 days!
