Focus on French Cinema 2026 Concludes at the Bruce Museum with Cedric Klapicsh’s Colours of Time (La Venue De L’avenir) (2025)

Focus on French Cinema (FFC), presented by the Alliance Française of Greenwich, will conclude its 2026 series of newly released French- language films at The Bruce Museum on Sunday, June 21 from 2:00 t0 5:00 pm with a special screening of Cédric Klapisch’s luminous new film, Colours of Time (La venue de L’Avenir).

“The new film by Cédric Klapisch is a beautiful examination of the timelessness of art that cuts back and forth between the present and 1895 Paris. Four cousins explore the life of their impressionist painter ancestor who faced extra obstacles as a woman in a male-dominated art scene. It’s another captivating personal film from the creator of ‘Rise’ and ‘Back to Burgundy'” said FFC Director of Programming, Joe Meyers in a release.

As the closing film of the Focus on French Cinema series at The Bruce Museum, Colours of Time offers a fitting finale: a film about how the past continues to shape the present, and how art allows each generation to see differently.

“Colours of Time is a beautiful choice to close their 2026 series because it connects so many of the themes at the heart of French culture: cinema, painting, memory, history, and the birth of modern vision says Renée Amory Ketcham, President of the Alliance Française of Greenwich/ Focus on French Cinema. “Klapisch reminds us that Impressionism was not only an artistic movement, but a new way of looking at everyday life.”

The film will be followed by a Q & A with Director of Programming, Joe Meyers, and Beth S. Gersh- Nesic, Ph.D., an art historian and director of the New York Arts Exchange, an arts education service that offers tours and lectures in the New York tristate area. Gersh- Nesic’s most recent book is a translation and annotation of “Pablo Picasso, André Salmon and ‘Young French Painting’.

The 2026 Focus on French Cinema series at The Bruce Museum has showcased newly released French-language films that reflect the vitality, diversity, and international reach of contemporary Francophone cinema. The closing screening of Colours of Time will celebrate the enduring dialogue between French art and French film, from the impressionist canvas to the cinematic screen.
