First Music & Arts presents Celestial Brass: Music for Brass Quintet & Organ

First Music & Arts, the arts outreach arm of the First Congregational Church of Greenwich, will present a concert of music for organ and brass quintet. The concert will be held at 4:00pm on Sunday, November 5, 2023 and will feature members of the brass section from Orchestra Lumos (formerly Stamford Symphony) and organist, Dr. Craig Scott Symons, Minister of Music at First Congregational Church.

Compositions for organ and brass will be by Bach, Strauss, Albinoni, Hovhaness, Verdi, Gabrieli, and others.

“This concert is a perfect fit for the sanctuary at First Church and the performers,” said organist Craig Symons. “Last spring, we welcomed a woodwind quintet from Orchestra Lumos, and it was so well received and attended that before the program was over, Russell Jones, President/CEO of Orchestra Lumos, and I had agreed to bring this program to Greenwich this fall. Having played a few of these pieces during worship on Sundays, we are excited to bring all of these performers together for the first time in this space. The acoustics and visual aspects with the stained glass windows are sure to stimulate the ears and eyes.”

In addition to works for quintet and organ, there will be several pieces for organ and various combinations of one or two instruments. Members of Orchestra Lumos who are featured on the concert are:

Donald Batchelder, trumpet
John Dent, trumpet
Eva Conti, horn
Richard Clark, trombone
Brian Brown, tuba
Tickets for this concert are $35 on the Orchestra Lumos website, or $40 at the door.
