First Congregational Church of Greenwich to Present 5-Week Lenten Organ Recitals in March

The First Congregational Church of Greenwich will present a series of organ recitals during the month of March to mark the liturgical season of Lent. Minister of Music Dr. Craig Scott Symons said the series returns this year after an abbreviated season in 2020.

“We embarked on a new series to highlight the 2019 renovation of our beautiful Austin pipe organ in March of 2020,” Dr. Symons said. “As we know, the start of the pandemic swiftly closed that series down. We are bringing the organists back who were scheduled to perform during that season but lost that chance to share their talents when the series abruptly ended.”

Beginning on Wednesday, March 1, from 12:15-12:45, Symons will open the series in the splendor of the historic Meetinghouse (sanctuary), and the program will focus on music by female composers.

The remaining concerts will be:

March 8 – Liya Petrides – St. Catherine Church, Riverside

March 15 – David Johnson – St. Paul’s Episcopal, Riverside

March 22 – Leslie Smith – Round Hill Community Church, Greenwich

March 29 – Craig Scott Symons

All the concerts are free and open to the public. The Meetinghouse is fully accessible with parking behind the church.
