Dogwood Books is delighted to welcome award-winning author and historian R. Lee Wilson for an engaging, visual presentation featuring his latest biography, Women’s Crusader, on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 6:00 pm.

The event includes the author’s talk, book signing, and wine & cheese reception with Mr. Wilson.

Join us for a fascinating evening celebrating history, resilience, and the enduring power of women’s voices.

Women’s Crusader is the compelling and meticulously researched untold story of Catharine (Kate) Beecher—a fun-loving extrovert turned pioneering advocate for women’s education.

Once among the most famous women in America, Kate’s remarkable life has been largely overshadowed by her younger sister, abolitionist Harriet Beecher Stowe. Wilson’s work, drawing on unpublished letters, manuscripts, and diary entries, reveals the poignant romance between Kate and Alexander Fisher, a brilliant Yale professor, and the tragic shipwreck that forever changed the course of her life.

Wilson’s narrative brings to light a critical turning point in 19th-century women’s history and restores Kate Beecher’s rightful place among America’s influential figures.

Lee Wilson is an IPPY Bronze Medal winner for Biography (2025) and a dynamic speaker known for weaving archival images and vivid anecdotes into his presentations. A former CEO, Harvard MBA, and Phi Beta Kappa graduate of DePauw University, Wilson has led a distinguished career in business and public service. Longtime members of the Greenwich community, he and his wife, Deb, have deep ties to Christ Church Greenwich, where they raised their three children.
