ART06870 Gallery Announces Opening Reception for “Recycle Reuse Repurpose” on Saturday

ART06870 Gallery is pleased to present the opening reception of RECYCLE REUSE REPURPOSE on Saturday, May 3 from 6:00–8:00pm at 260R Sound Beach Avenue, Old Greenwich, CT 06870 (Located behind the Chase Bank).

Focusing on artists using recycle and repurpose mediums, the exhibition was carefully timed in collaboration with Earth Day celebrations at Old Greenwich School and the annual beach cleanup organized by the Live Like Luke Foundation. In partnership with the Developing Artist Program and the Greenwich Alliance for Education, ART06870 also hosted a creative workshop encouraging students to engage with environmental themes through art.

The use of nontraditional materials—such as plastics, discarded newspapers, packaging, and everyday found objects—has emerged as a powerful way to reflect the complexities of modern life. These materials, often overlooked or considered waste, are recontextualized by artists to challenge traditional ideas of value, beauty, and permanence. We are thrilled to present the work of such incredibly accomplished artists in an exhibition that is sure to captivate, inspire, and spark meaningful dialogue.

The exhibition is a celebration of the artists and the collaborative efforts with the gallery and community. Students, families and neighbors working to clean up Greenwich/Tod’s point, are invited to use material collected in a collaborative community art installation during the opening reception.

ART06870 is especially thrilled about this exhibition as it furthers our commitment to providing opportunities for artists to exhibit their work and building strong, supportive communities.

Alongside their exhibitions, they remain dedicated to enriching the lives of children through events, workshops, and community-based art projects. ART06870 is dedicated to nurturing artistic expression and fostering connections between artists and the community. Through exhibitions, educational programming, and outreach initiatives, the gallery serves as a platform for creativity and cultural enrichment.

ART06870 features bi-monthly exhibitions and events in conjunction with the Project Space at the working studio for Michael Manning and Ben Quesnel and headquarters for the Developing Artist Program/The Project Space and photographer/architectural designer Christian Salvati.

The Developing Artist Program is made possible with a grant from the Greenwich Alliance for Education. Additional funding for the program has come from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, CT Office of the Arts (COA), and the National Endowment for the Arts.

ART06870 focuses on contemporary art across an array of disciplines with a mission to showcase exceptional artists creating introspective, unique work. The gallery brings together artists, collectors, and benefactors with exhibitions, events, and collaborations to create an expansive vibrant community built on the belief that art is more than a commodity and is vital to the way it makes us feel and the message it conveys about us and our community.

Installation view: Recycle Reuse Purpose (all work created with recycle alternative materials)

During a workshop at Old Greenwich school which is directly connected to the exhibition, Alejandro Durán presented one of his photographic installation art pieces, created from plastics washed up on beaches in Mexico, originating from over 60 different countries. Following the presentation, young students and environmentalists created their own installation artworks using washed-up plastics. This activity highlighted their creativity while deepening their understanding of environmentalism and reinforcing the idea that they are the future stewards of our community.
