To the Editor,
Like many across Greenwich, Stamford, and New Canaan, I’ve felt the burden of unpredictable utility bills and watched severe storms leave our neighborhoods vulnerable. Opening electricity bills each month, it is clear high energy costs stretch household budgets. Driving through our towns after a heavy downpour, we see flooded basements, overflowing storm drains, and rising waters threatening our shoreline and roads. At the same time, safeguarding our parks and green spaces is vital not only to preserve property values and community character, but to absorb floodwaters and maintain healthy natural ecosystems.
Solving these real-world problems takes proven, fiscally responsible leadership, and that is exactly what Jill Oberlander brings to the table. Combining her background in law and non-profit experience with outstanding service to our town as former BET Chair, Selectperson, and RTM representative, Jill will deliver practical solutions grounded in fiscal responsibility as State Senator in the 36th District:
Relief on Energy Bills: Jill opposes Eversource’s rate hikes, calls for transparency, and champions clean, renewable energy investments to stabilize costs and lower our carbon footprint long-term.
Water Quality & Coastal Resiliency: With Long Island Sound projected to rise 20 inches by 2050, proactive measures are essential to safeguard homes, businesses, and town assets along our 30 miles of shoreline and local waterways. Jill is committed to supporting key legislation and securing state funding to modernize aging wastewater and stormwater systems, track pollution, and protect wetlands.
Preserving Open Space: From her early work with the New York City Parks Department to chairing Greenwich’s Sustainability Committee, Jill knows parks and open spaces define our communities. In Hartford, she will fight to protect green spaces, property values, and our local ecosystem.
Jill Oberlander offers common-sense, fiscally responsible solutions to our most pressing issues. On Election Day, let’s send a leader to Hartford who will put the “green” in Greenwich, Stamford, and New Canaan.
Sincerely,
Julie DesChamps
