The music paused today with the passing of Alfred J. DiMarco Jr., September 25, 2026, at the age of 90.
Affectionately known as “The Chief,” Al’s musical legacy began at age
14. Over his lifetime, he brought joy to countless people with his musical artistry across the vibraphone, accordion, piano and vocals. He was a staple, playing weddings and restaurants from Polpo in Greenwich to Marianacci’s in Port Chester, as well as other establishments throughout Fairfield and Westchester county. His bands Al D. and the Starlighters, Litevibration, and The Al DiMarco Swing Band brought so much joy spanning eight decades. He most recently pivoted to livestreaming on Facebook every Sunday, playing and singing his favorite songs and telling stories with the intention of
making people happy.
He was born in Port Chester on May 14, 1936, to Alfred and Margaret (De Simone) DiMarco. He is the devoted father of Vincent (wife Katherine), Joseph, Thomas (wife Kim), Natasha and the late Alfred DiMarco III (d. 2023). Devoted grandfather of Danielle (husband Derek) Barto and Pascal Nilsson-DiMarco, M.D., and great grandfather of Eleanor and Theodore. He is also survived by his companion, Patricia Murphy, and former wives Elizabeth (née Angelo) and Maggie (née Flock).
To honor his life, friends may call Monday from 4:00 to 8:00pm at Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Avenue, Greenwich, CT. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday at 10:00am at Sacred Heart Church, followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Al always reminded us to “keep a song in our hearts.” Now, as he sits at heaven’s grand piano surrounded by angels, we can hear one say, “Play it again, Al.”
